7-20-10

Today was our second day of work at our church. We drive 2-hours both ways to get there. We basically drive to LA everyday. When we pulled up the pastor who was very excited to show us her church met us. We went for a 10-minute walk down the street to the church building. When we got there, there was a half built cement block church. We asked her why the church wasn’t finished. She told us that in the night someone had taken the cement blocks needed to finish the church. But they make due with what they got and they fill the building every Sunday wall to wall. I will be posting pictures another time to show you what I’m talking about.

On our way back I got a chance to talk to a 20 year old man (can’t remember his name). He told me how he had failed his goal by not being able to pass his classes and isn’t sure if he can afford to go any longer. He was real bummed out. I got a chance to encourage him and pray for him to ask the Lord for help. He seemed to be encouraged by this. It was a very cool moment for me. The verse that has been stuck in my head for this trip is Romans 15:2-8. Please check it out. It’s about not pleasing ourselves but being there to serve others. That’s what this trip is really about. Encouraging each other on towards Christ.

We had a lot of work to do with our garden. We put up the post yesterday and today we needed to put up the support wire, the fencing, created ditches in the ground for the seedlings, and planting 1000 seedlings. We worked our butts off. We were able to finish the entire garden and only stayed an extra hour than we were supposed to. But that’s what we are there to do. They smiles and gratitude they showed were so rewarding. They will start having food in 6-8 weeks they say. Which is so awesome! We planted onions, cabbage, beetroot, and spinach. So please continue to pray for this garden and that it brings multitudes of food to them.

Such a cool day! God is so good and I am so lucky that He has given me this opportunity. I’m really excited for tomorrow because we get to go on a safari. Can’ wait to see all the wildlife. Also we get to sleep in a whole hour. Instead of 6 AM we get to sleep to 7 AM. Thank you for your support and I’ll let you know how it goes. Talk to ya’ll later!
